Bruce Riveland leaves Seattle Central
Dr. Bruce Riveland, the now former Vice President of Administration at Seattle Central is leaving his position for another at Lake Washington Technical Institute. In an email announcing his departure, Dr. Riveland commented on his time in public education. “We do great work. Public education is the most successful path out of poverty compared to all other social programs in the history of our country. A well-educated populace is a key to a strong democracy. A strong middle class is a key to a good economy. There are few social goals stronger than bolstering the human spirit by helping each person succeed based on their innate ability, and not be limited by their gender, race, religion or sexual orientation. It is great work.”
In a separate email Dr. Shiela Edwards Lange, President of Seattle Central, noted that Dr. Riveland’s contributions to the community will be greatly missed. The search for a new VP of Administration is underway, she said. In the interim, Lincoln Ferris, who has served as Special Consultant to the President since 2014 will be taking over Dr. Riveland’s duties temporarily.
On October 28th, a rumor spread across social media that the Capitol Hill Fire Station 25 was itself…on fire. A video posted to twitter showed what appeared to be smoke billowing from a second story window. This information begged many questions, namely, who puts out the fire at the place that puts out the fire? Thankfully, the rumor was quickly doused when Kristin Tinsley, the Senior Communications Manager and PIO for the Seattle Fire Department, explained that it was a fog machine set up for the Fall Festival events at the firehouse. Crisis averted.
You Can’t Sit With Us
According to an article over at The Daily written by Claudia Yaw and Jake Goldstein-Street, the University of Washington College Republicans (UWCR) have been recently ousted as UW’s most controversial student group. Known for such antics as their “Affirmative Action” bake sale held earlier this year, and the infamous visit to UW by known alt-light member and self-professed pedophile Milo Yiannopoulos that left one anti-racist with a bullet in his gut. According to the (CRNC), these and other acts are unbecoming of a school club representing the Republican voice at UW. According to an email obtained by the Daily from the Assistant Director of the Student Activities Office, UWCR will lose access to many of it’s registered student organization (RSO) perks like meeting space and college email on Monday, Nov. 5. Whether former UWCR members will join the already sanctioned college republican chapter or form a new student group is unknown.
We’re the Seattle Freakin’ Sounders
On Tuesday the 29th Sounders FC won the Western Conference final with a 3-1 victory over Los Angeles Football Club (LAFC). Many of the most diehard Emerald City Supporter fans traveled to LA to watch the match. They battled LA traffic and forest fires raging less than 20 miles away to support the team. Everyone’s favorite Peruvian forward Raul Ruidiaz and midfielder Nico Lodeiro showed the world what working as a team can look like to bring in those 3 goals. LAFC fans were not particularly happy with the outcome and on two separate occasions threw beer cans onto the pitch; one being punted back into the crowd by the ever talented left back Nouhou Tolo. The Western Conference win positioned the Sounders to play against Eastern Conference winners Toronto FC for the MLS Cup in Seattle’s Century Link field on Nov 10th, which much to the delight of Sounders fans everywhere will be covered by Jayda Evans of the Seattle Times.
